From an ecologic and health protection point of view, bentonite is a safe product for both the environment and man, in compliance with EC Regulation No. 1272/2008 and Directive No. 67/548/EC currently in force.
Bentonite is not separately classified by the Occupation Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). None of the following bodies - OSHA, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and the Italian Programma Tossicologico Nazionale (National Toxicologic Programme, NTP) - has classified it as a carcinogenic substance.
Bentonite is exempted from REACH Registration, pursuant to the second Annex V.7. As resulted from a risk assessment conducted under the supervision of the European Bentonite Association (EUBA), bentonite is not a hazardous substance. Hence, there being no identified risks, bentonite is a safe substance to use.
